April 2008 MARKET PREPARES TO OPEN May 6th, 12:30, Trinity Church parking lot. Be there. That will begin the 11th year of our wonderful farmers’ market. This year we have 3 new vendors—Susan Parks from Rich Valley Farm in Stafford Springs, CT who makes soap and lotions with goat milk from her goats; Song Vang Yang from Fitchburg who raises Asian vegetables (mostly leafy greens), and Dan Higgins from Blue Moon Coffee Roasters who will sell freshly roasted ground and bean coffee. 3 of our vendors will not be returning—Goosefoot Garlic Farm, Moe’s Dogs, and Cupola Hollow Farm. Opening day should have about 8 vendors there. Although I don’t know who will be there, I expect Red Fire Farm with plants and a few vegetables, Hickory Dell with plants, maple syrup, cheese, and Appalachian Naturals products, Mayou’s Apiary with honey and bee products, A New Leaf with plants, Berkshire Mountain Bakery with organic sourdough bread, Trinity Farm with milk, butter, yogurt, and cream, and Orlowski’s Farm with plants (mostly perennials) possibly Chicoine Family Farm with grass-fed beef, Outlook Farm with pork, baked goods, barbecue sauce, and rubs, and Velma’s Kettle Corn. If we have a warm few weeks between now and then, we may have native asparagus from Riverbend Farm. Some years we have it the first week, others not. We will be purchasing a wireless transfer machine so that we can accept EBT/debit/credit cards. In addition to being a terrific place to purchase local products, our market is very social. It’s a great place to meet and greet friends. See you there. For delicious recipes, please go to OurRecipes .
